ASV's Commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

The Association of Shelter Veterinarians recognizes the deep systemic racism within our communities and our field. Racial bias impacts us, our colleagues, our clients, and the human-animal bond. We are committed to promoting equity for all individuals who are providing and receiving veterinary care and animal sheltering services.

We also care strongly about fostering a supportive and welcoming community of shelter practitioners. We stand in solidarity with our members fighting systemic racism and we share in this time of meaningful introspection to identify our own shortcomings. Diversity and inclusion make us stronger as an organization and a profession.

We want to do more to support diversity, equity and inclusion within our organization and within our field. We want to ensure we are building a community that embraces our members’ diverse perspectives, cultures and backgrounds. And we will start with listening and learning. Please share your thoughts, comments, feedback and ideas either through our Facebook pages or by contacting us directly at [email protected]. As the first step in working towards racial equity, ASV is creating a task force focused specifically on embracing and embedding DEI within our board and our organization. Your voice is critical and valued.

Thank you, The ASV Board
