Committees

Continuing Education Committee
Co-Chairs: Dr. Staci Cannon and Dr. Chumkee Aziz
The Continuing Education Committee plans and oversees ASV collaborative events and tracks at national conferences, maintains a speaker’s bureau for non-sponsored events and unanticipated speaking requests, and offers logistical support to organizations planning educational wetlabs. The CE committee is also tasked with developing ASV’s online CE presence through partnerships with The Association of Animal Welfare Advancement, Maddie’s Fund, and Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association. This committee is most active in short bursts throughout the year according to schedules established by conference organizers. We are looking for additional members for this committee. Development Committee
Co-Chairs: Dr. Jen Bolser and Dr. Nancy Bradley
The Development Committee works in coordination with the Executive Board in formulating a fundraising strategy for the organization. This committee also investigates additional investment opportunities to support the activities of the organization.  Committee activities occur year-round and will include quarterly meetings as this committee develops new strategies to increase ASV financial sustainability. We are looking for additional members for this committee. Finance Committee
Co-Chairs: Dr. Nancy Bradley and Dr. Barbie Laderman-Jones
The Finance Committee provides financial oversight for the organization. This committee works in conjunction with the Executive Board to formulate a budget and financial plan. The committee has quarterly meetings that consist of reviewing the financials as presented by the Executive Board. This is a closed committee, with membership limited to ASV board members.

Membership Committee
Chair: Dr. Zarah Hedge
The primary goal of the membership committee is to ensure that the organization is providing value to its members.  This goal will be accomplished by soliciting and responding to member feedback, implementing and sustaining new member benefits, and enhancing communication with members.  We strive to foster an engaged and involved membership.  Current projects include newsletters, supporting student ASV chapters at veterinary colleges, and implementing a new mentorship platform. In addition, this committee will strive to increase our membership numbers by attracting new members and retaining current members.   Please email [email protected] if you are interested in joining or have questions about this committee’s activities.

Nominations Committee
Chair: Dr. Barbie Laderman-Jones
The Nominations Committee is responsible for facilitating annual elections of new members of the ASV Board of Directors and members of the ASV’s Executive Board. The committee solicits new board member nominations from the ASV membership, interviews nominees, and provides recommendations to the current board. This committee is also responsible for facilitating nomination and selection of recipients of annual ASV awards - the Meritorious Service Award and the Veterinarian of the Year Award.  This is a closed committee, with membership limited to current board members.

Position Statement Committee
Chair: Dr. Lena DeTar
The Position Statement Committee is tasked with identifying and crafting new position statements and engaging in regular review of existing position statements. The committee oversees the development of ASV’s backgrounder informational resources and works with the Executive Board to respond to requests for advocacy on issues of importance to shelter veterinarians. This is an open committee, with membership comprised of current and past board members.

Website Committee
Co-Chairs: Dr. Zarah Hedge and Dr. Erin Katribe
The Website Committee maintains and updates the ASV website and social media accounts. This committee also manages the closed Facebook group for ASV member discussion and support. In addition, this committee explores new options to promote ASV online. We are looking for additional members for this committee.
